How are you preparing for your future financial goals? Can the two go hand in hand? If you’re new to investing, you might feel doubly cautious about entering the stock market however, with preparation, patience and trust a bear market can be a good time to begin the journey toward more financial diversification. The technology sector seems especially vulnerable as news reports tech companies are laying off hundreds or even thousands of workers and inflation is causing even more woes for the economy. Stocks that were recently performing well have dropped in value precipitously. Looking at the market right now can fill an investor with trepidation. Jesus is the peace that God promised and our trust in him is essential to transforming the world. Do not be unduly fearful, because you are not alone."ii Faustina to “fight like a knight, so that I can reward you. We all fear when faced with the unknown or in times of peril and yet, Jesus reminds us that our trust in God should be greater than our fear of the thing that lies before us. Jesus rebukes the wind and the waves to calm the sea then, asks the disciples, “Where is your faith?” (Luke 8:25). A sudden storm overtakes the boat and as the wind and waves whip around it the disciples awaken Jesus to alert him of the danger. As they sail across the Sea of Galilee, Jesus falls asleep. In the first three gospels, we hear the story of Jesus calming the storms. The peace of the Mass and the peace of Advent are better realized in faithful trust. The second week of Advent focuses on the theme of peace, not world peace or harmony or an end to all wars, although all those things would be nice. The USCCB document “And with your Spirit” explains, “the priest expresses his desire that the dynamic activity of God’s spirit be given to the people of God, enabling them to do the work of transforming the world that God has entrusted to them.”i “Peace be with your spirit.” At the conclusion of the Our Father, the priest or deacon offers this greeting to the faithful at Mass.
